How to merge PDF files

To merge PDFs, drop two or more files into the box above, drag the cards into the order you want, and press Merge. SailPDF combines them on your device, keeps every page at its original quality, and downloads a single PDF named after your first file.

1

Add your PDFs

Choose files or drag them into the box. You can add more files at any point before merging.

2

Put them in order

Drag the cards, or use the arrows, to set which document comes first, second and last.

3

Merge and download

Press Merge. The combined PDF is built in your browser and downloads straight away.

What Merge PDF does and does not do

Merge keeps pages exactly as they are: text stays selectable, links and form fields survive, and nothing is re-compressed. Bookmarks from individual files are not carried into the merged document, and password-protected PDFs must be unlocked before merging. The practical limit is your device memory — around 200 MB or 1000 pages per merge on a typical laptop.

Private by design

SailPDF merges files with code that runs in your browser. Your PDFs are never sent to a server, so nobody else can see them.

Questions

Is it free to merge PDFs?

Yes. Merging is free, with no page limit, no watermark and no account. The tool runs on your device, so there is nothing to subscribe to.

Are my files uploaded to a server?

No. The merge happens in a Web Worker inside your browser tab. Your files never leave your device, which also means the tool keeps working offline once the page has loaded.

How many PDFs can I combine at once?

There is no fixed file count. The limit is memory: roughly 200 MB or 1000 pages in total on a typical laptop, less on older phones. If a merge runs out of memory the tool tells you instead of failing silently.

Can I merge a password-protected PDF?

Not directly. Remove the password first with Unlock PDF, then merge the unlocked copy. SailPDF will not guess or bypass a password.

Will the merged PDF keep links and form fields?

Yes. Pages are copied as they are, so text stays selectable and internal links, annotations and form fields are preserved. Nothing is flattened or re-rendered.

Does merging reduce quality?

No. Merge does not re-encode images or re-compress text, so the output is the same quality as the inputs. The file is roughly the sum of the originals.

What happens to bookmarks and outlines?

Bookmarks from the individual documents are not merged into the combined outline. Page content, links and metadata are kept; the navigation tree is not.

Can I merge PDFs on a phone?

Yes. The tool works in mobile Safari and Chrome on iOS and Android. Very large merges are limited by the phone’s memory, so prefer doing them on a computer above roughly 100 MB.
